Our PSD-8 guidance program is a resource center for teachers, parents, and administrators. The guidance counselor works with students individually or in groups to promote a positive self-concept as well as academic, personal and social growth. In addition, the guidance counselor uses the results from state and local assessments which may be helpful in developing a student's educational program. s Study Habits & Organizational Skills s Self-Esteem & Self-Identity s Decision Making s Setting Goals s Friendships & Conflict Resolution s Popularity s Peer Pressure s Responsibility s Dealing With Anger & Stress s Use, Misuse, and Abuse of Controlled Dangerous Substances Students in grade 8 receive instruction in Career Exploration. High school options are discussed. They explore careers by participating in computer interest inventories and personality tests. The students are required to write a short paper describing a career of interest or a career matched to their interest inventory. An oral presentation about their career choices is planned during their language arts classes. |
