Recycling At School

Recycling at FMB

The EPA estimates the average US citizen discards over 100 pounds of clothing per year and that 85% of it ends up in landfills. At HELPSY, our mission is to keep clothes out of landfills because #clothesarenttrash.

For re-wear, reuse, and recycling, we accept the following items in any condition for all ages and genders so long as they are clean, dry, and odorless. Everything should be kept dry in a closed, plastic bag. Recycling your clothes shouldn’t be hard, we’re here to help!

Footware: Shoes, Heels, Flats, Sandals, Flip Flops, Boots (all varieties), Sneakers, Cleats, Slippers

Clothing: Tops (t-shirt, blouses, shirts, tank tops), Sweaters, Sweatshirts, Dresses, Outerwear (coats, jackets, blazers), Bottoms (pants, slacks, jeans, sweatpants, skirts, shorts), Suits, Pajamas, Intimates (slips, bras, underwear, socks), Baby clothing

TREX plastic materials recycling

We are entering our 8th year of participating in the TREX program. TREX uses various types of plastics to make their decking materials.

Our school is collecting grocery bags, bread bags, case overwrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, wood pellet bags, ziplock & other re-sealable bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, salt bags, and cereal bags.

All plastics are weighed and then dropped off at a local business where TREX picks them up. All materials must be clean, dry and free of food residue. Collection bins are located at both schools.

Terracycle Recycling

TerraCycle has created a zero waste solution for the following items:

  • ENTENMANN'S Little Bites pouches
  • ANY BRAND of aluminum juice pouches
  • ANY BRAND Squeezable applesauce/yogurt pouches
  • ANY BRAND Toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss & their original packaging
  • ANY BRAND of #6 plastic cups.

These items are collected daily in the FMB cafeteria.

For each item, Terracycle will donate a penny to our school. It doesn’t seem like much but it definitely adds up!

If you have any of the above items and want to recycle them, please send them in with your child.

Office and classroom paper recycling
Every classroom at FMB has a blue recycling bucket marked for paper recycling/bottles to ensure our used paper/bottles are properly recycled into our single-steam bin rather than ending up in the trash can. 4th Grade students go around the school every Wednesday and Friday to collect all items and deposit them into our dedicated recycling dumpster.
